Despite the fact that Valve seemed unable to make up their mind  as to what exactly to show at E3, they ultimately stuck with Portal 2 - and did not disappoint fans of the popular FPS/puzzle.

Since the official unveiling, we’ve been excited for more details and we didn’t have to wait long, as two new gameplay videos have been released - narrated by the Valve developers. Both videos answer more questions we’ve had regarding the story of the sequel as well as what updates there are in the gameplay.

What new details have we learned? Well, it seems GlaDOS is still our quirky nemesis, no thanks to the bumbling personality sphere who pulled her out of her incapacitated state - but then again she does state that she’s capable of putting differences behind her.

She always tells the truth, right?

The gameplay has been beefed up with new features for your portal gun and environmental tools. The first one is an “Excursion Beam” - basically a tractor beam connecting two portals together, adding the ability for your character or objects to hover across and over pits and harmful liquids.

There is also an “Aerial Faith Plate” - a type of platform that will fling you, and needed companion cubes, across the puzzle maps.

The last one is a series of cubes that conduct lasers, or “Thermal Discouragement Beams” - which will help you defeat those pesky enemy turrets, paired up with strategic portal placements of course.

So far so good, I’d say. I love Portal and the details of the next installment are nothing short of exciting. The environments look amazingly detailed and consistent with the happenings at the conclusion of the first game, mixed with the effects of the time that has passed. Additionally, the new mechanics add to the challenge of the game, and we can expect the title will provide much more gameplay than the first - with many more puzzles to get through.

Portal 2 is scheduled to hit shelves in 2011 on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Are you excited for Portal 2? What else are you hoping to see in the puzzle-shooter?
