A Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan job listing claims that the PlayStation 5 release date is October 2020. A more specific date isn’t named in the job listing, but the October 2020 release is still significant as many had assumed that the console would be launching in November. Of course, it’s possible that the job listing is incorrect about the PS5 release date or that plans have changed since it was written. For what it’s worth, Sony itself has said that the release date was written in error by the recruitment site, though it’s always difficult to ascertain when companies are being truthful about “leaks.”

If the PS5 release date is in October, it would fly in the face of some of the biggest rumors about the next-generation console. Previously, a leaker said that the PS5 release date is November 20, and that the console would be launching with a boost feature for PS4 games. The same leaker also said that the PS5 will have something similar to the Xbox Smart Delivery program. However, this PS5 release date leak seems to contradict those leaks, throwing all of those claims into question.
While some fans may disregard this release date since it’s not November, which is usually the month when new consoles launch, it’s worth pointing out that this wouldn’t be the first time a PlayStation console released in October. It’s true that both the PS3 and PS4 released in November, but the PlayStation 2, Sony’s most successful console to date, launched in October of 2000, so there is certainly precedent for it.
If this job listing is accurate, it may also be a sign that Sony itself plans on revealing the PS5 release date soon. If the company has nailed down when it wants to launch the PlayStation 5 console, it may have also settled on other details like the PS5 price and what games will be featured in its launch lineup. Sony is expected to host a full PS5 reveal presentation within the next couple of months, so perhaps fans will find out more sooner rather than later.
