Nobody won the jackpot in Wednesday night’s drawing, so the jackpot on Sunday, May 23, is worth an estimated $218 million, with a cash option of $149 million. This prize could increase if lottery ticket sales exceed projections.
Although nobody won the grand prize, two players from Michigan and North Carolina matched all five numbers to win a million dollars each. Additionally, 16 lucky players matched four numbers and the Powerball and won $50,000 each. Five players did the same but used the Power Play, doubling their prizes to $100,000 each.
More than 300 Powerball players matched four numbers and won $100 each, while more than 90 players doubled their prizes to $200 using the Power Play. Nearly 900 additional players won $100 each, but did so by matching three numbers and the Powerball, with more than 200 doing the same but using the Power Play.
Furthermore, more than 21,600 players won $7 by matching three numbers, with over 6,000 winning $14 with the Power Play. More than 19,000 players also won $7, but by matching two numbers and the Powerball, with over 5,000 doing the same using the Power Play.
More than half a million players won $4 each by matching either one number and the Powerball or just the Powerball, while over 150,000 did the same but using the Power Play, doubling their prizes to $8.
The next Powerball drawing will take place on Saturday, May 22, at 11 p.m. ET. To take part in the next drawing, purchase a ticket for $2 from a licensed lottery retailer, with the option to add the Power Play to your ticket for an additional $1 per play.
The Power Play feature can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5, or 10 times, and the multiplier number is randomly selected just before each drawing.
The 10X multiplier is only in play when the advertised jackpot annuity is $150 million or less, so will not be in play this Saturday. Plus, the Match 5 prize with Power Play is always $2 million.
Sales cut-off times vary by jurisdiction but are usually between an hour and two before the drawing.
Powerball players also have the option of playing the same set of numbers in multiple drawings with the Multi-Draw or Advance Play section of the play slip. The number of Multi-Draws or Advance Plays available for purchase is dependent on the selling jurisdiction.
The odds of winning a prize are the same in every Powerball drawing, no matter how much the jackpot is worth. Players have a 1 in 24.9 chance of winning a prize when the advertised jackpot is $40 million and the same 1 in 24.9 chance of winning a prize when the advertised jackpot is $1 billion. It also does not matter how many people purchase tickets—the odds are still the same.
